Before you die...
Sorry!... I mean buy... Learn what's really important. What you really need before bugging out & even if & when you should or not. Survival is & isn't just about the gear in your bag. We're breaking down the gear, the skills, physics & the pure psychology of statistical survival scenarios. So take a few minutes to learn about what it really takes to survive any disaster.
Catastrophes...
1-3 weeks at the most... However!...
There are occasions it goes on longer. Plan for that if you can but don't forget, that the first 3 minutes are usually the most crucial. Bugging out isn't always the best option and survival is not all about having a years worth of food, a thousand dollar bag of gear or a bunch of high tech gizmos. It's mostly about the gray matter between your ears.

Good news! Most disasters are resolved within 72 hours or less.

3 Minute Bag
Gas Mask, Med Kit & Tools...
Easily assessable and ready in an instant. Anything you may need in the first 3 minutes to survive, to make it to the next 3 minutes. You need to breath and if you have to bugout it's environmental, biologically hazardous or possibly even both. With Immediate Medical treatment capability on hand, you now have the tools needed to bug-in. Yes!... I said bug-in.
Your gloves are here in this bag. Clothing... A light and tools. Do you need to shut off water or gas lines?... Has the power grid been compromised?... Is the foundation secure?... Earthquake, tornado or hurricane for example. Bugging out may not be your priority at the moment. Rubble or natural gas or contaminant might be. Survival is minute by minute here, and every minute counts. Sometimes every second is crucial.

Dress for Success
Think Post Apocalyptic Cowboy meets Hazmat Team from E.T.
Full Coverage Here, Head to Toe! Hats, Hood, Goggles, Scarf, cuz you won't always need a Gasmask. Gloves, Comfortable Boots. You need Layers, Pants, Shirts, Jackets. Something waterproof like a poncho or tarp. Finally something to carry all your stuff. You need a pack. This is the dress code.
Your dress code is your first line of defense against the elements.

Law of 3... Things you need to Survive!
Skill, Shelter & Sustenance
You can only last 3 minutes without air. You can also bleed out in less then 3 minutes. Take note that exposure can get to you within 3 hours or less as well. So! Dress for success. I'll wait while you get ready & we'll talk about the other 3's you need to know about. All the way to where in any crisis situation, people are the most dangerous and unpredictable element in the equation, and hesitation... That 3 seconds can get you killed!

Basics... 3 minutes without air. Bleed out in less then 3 minutes. So... If you can breath the air & don't have any holes in you, you're doing good so far. The 3 minute bag. Everything you might need in the next 3 minutes in the worst of conditions. Gasmask, Clothing, Med Kit, Flashlight, Multitool, Tape, a Recharger, Fresh Water. Your Bugout bag is something separate. You may not even need it yet. You're ready, your bugout bag is still ready.
You're ready for the next thing. Whatever it is!... Grab your phone now. It's a lifeline, at least until the grid goes down or you run out of power, or loose it or damage it beyond repair.
3 Minute Bag
Now you're ready. Grab your phone. It's a lifeline till the grid goes down or you run out of power, or damage it. So be careful.
Structural damage takes another step. Gas leaks, Busted Water pipes & electrical wiring need to be considered & possibly even delt with. Don't bugout yet. If your shelter is structurally sound & your environment is currently secure, there's no reason to go.
Collapsing structures, rising waters, impending fires. Yeah...
Time to grab your Buddy & go! Your bugout bag is ready. You didn't even open it to get a flash light or med kit or apocalyptical socks. You're not wasting anymore time getting ready. Armageddon needs to get ready for you. See all this time you've been prepping for Armageddon, while all this time Armageddon has been trying to prepare itself for me.

You can now go 3 days without sleep, 3 days without water & 3 weeks without food. After 30 hours without just one of these however, & you'll be feeling the ill effects. With most bugout scenarios your fighting peoples panic, the elements of mother nature & time herself. The C's of survival, cleverly market tools like cutlery with cordage grip & a compass on a can opener. Things that, with the proper Skills, are used to help obtain Sustenance, keep cooking it & construct a Shelter if needed. Without the proper skills, some of this stuff will get you killed.

Let's break it down. Disaster happens quickly sometimes. You don't panic though. You're ready for anything. You fight human nature & stay still. Unless you have to dodge something of course... Observing, analyzing & making an informed decision & taking action appropriately, logically. 2.3 seconds flat...

Bugging Out is the last thing you want
It could happen in an instant though & you have to go! Staying or Bugging In, is no longer an option. This is were you want to be prepared for the moment, any moment, at a moments notice. Now all the elements are going to be against you. Air quality, portable, clean, drinking water, shelter for the night & food, are going to be your next big concerns.
If you know how to go about securing these, you're already ahead in the game.

Can I be ready for absolutely anything?
You can only prepare for the worst & train to do your best.
Your mind is your first & last tool. Cover yourself & your basic needs. Remember the laws of survival. The 3's, & the C's... Have at least a 3 Day Buffer of Food & Water. Keep it light weight. 1/3 your body mass or less.
What do I do once the food & water run out?
You need redundancy. Alternative ways to stay dry, get warm, start a fire, cook food, gather water, filter it & not end up getting a Darwin award.

Skill vs Stuff
Gray Matter vs Gadgets & Gear

Popular Survival Gear used to be a loin cloth and a bone knife. Lovely How Some Things Never Change!...
Your Stuff won't always save you. In fact it might even get you killed. Ultimately it is skill & sometimes that reliable gear that saves you in the end. Reliable Skills, outweigh any amount of gear. Yet weigh just as much as any other amount of gray matter.
Gear for Kids
Emotional Coverage... Covered!
Then we let you add in the essentials. Air, Water, snacks, a light, a poncho, emergency thermal blanket maybe even a GPS tracker... Useful gear for their security & for your peace of mind all in one.

Build A Buddy, with Bugout Bears and Friends. Get, and Equip your favorite Bugout Buddy and customize them, to your specific needs of survival.

Hard Truth
After 72 hours most people get desperate, or worse... Dangerous! If you look prepared, if you look like you have something of value, you can become a target. Even when their not threatening, not hostile, not intentionally trying to hurt anyone. Panic, lack of judgement or unintended poor actions can get others hurt or killed.

Hard Rain
After 72 hours most people become desperate.
Imagine after a week or almost a month. We were born from Hurricane Hugo, were we went 28 days without power. Examining hundreds of other storms before & sense then. Sense 1990 We have examined every disaster, small & large. We have learned about survival & have been studying, strategies, skills & statistics so you wouldn't become one.

Predict the future?
You really only have a couple choices... Bug In or Bugout... If you bugout then you're either in a vehicle or on foot.
You can prepare to Bug In for months or even years. If you have to bugout though, you can only take so much with you. Especially on foot. You should prepare for all 3 events. Bug in as long as possible during most circumstances. The only real time bugging out becomes absolutely necessary is if & when the environment becomes so hostile, that staying is no longer an option. That staying means death. Bugging out in a vehicle means you may eventually be on foot anyway.
